The Right to Information Act, 2005 (RTI Act-2005), enacted by the Parliament, came into force on 15 June 2005. This Act provides citizens the right to access information under the control of public authorities, promoting transparency and accountability in their operations. All universities and colleges established by law by the Parliament, State Legislature, or by notification of the appropriate government authority, or those controlled or substantially financed directly or indirectly by government funds, fall under the purview of public authority as defined by this Act. In accordance with guidelines from the Higher Education Department, Government of West Bengal, UGC, and the University of Calcutta, Naba Ballygunge Mahavidyalaya, Kolkata has implemented the Right to Information Act, 2005.

Application Procedure:

  • The application may be typewritten or neatly handwritten with "Application under RTI Act 2005" mentioned at the top.
  • Applications may also be submitted via email as a recognized mode of communication, with no prescribed proforma required.
  • Applications will not be rejected for not following a prescribed proforma.
  • The application should be written in English or Bengali in simple and clear language.
  • Address the application to the "Public Information Officer" without mentioning a specific name.
  • State your questions directly and point-wise, avoiding vague queries.
  • Avoid using overly technical or legal terms.
  • Attach the Government RTI fee in the form of IPO/DD, etc., as applicable, with the RTI application.
  • Include a declaration at the end of the application stating that you are an Indian citizen.
